Drawing lace

Lace seems to have come back into fashion and as a result I’ve been briefed to draw a number of lace textile designs. Drawing lace means that its most likely going to be a two colour print. One for the line and the other for fabric colour. This can seem simple enough but the time in the print is put into the detail.¬†Every bit of lace is unique. Every part that is connected is individual. The only way to get this effect is to draw that detail, which does take time but creates the resemblance of lace. Below is a speed painting of one of the designs. Enjoy.

And before you ask, why don’t people simply use lace rather than a drawn design? Its cheaper to print and you can work in some nice details.
